Our story
Where are
our roots?
In the valley behind the village of Avidagos lie the olive groves of MURO, a family business born from the marriage of a Portuguese woman and a Belgian man.
The makers

Trás-os-Montes
A contest between soil and climate
MURO's olive groves lie in the north-eastern corner of Portugal, in the centuries-old province of Trás-os-Montes. This upland region owes its unique agricultural character to the constant contest between soil and climate.
In quiet villages, people still work the land by traditional methods. The region's produce is known for its purity and authenticity.

“We want to build a bridge between traditional farming and contemporary gastronomy.”
The family
A shared passion for regional produce
MURO is a Belgian-Portuguese family business. On nine hectares in the valley of Avidagos we tend three olive varieties native to Trás-os-Montes: Cordovil, Verdeal Transmontana and Cobrançosa. We make our own olive oil, from planting to bottling. We do not have a press of our own. We do have a mill a few kilometres from our grove, where we are present at every pressing. Our olives are pressed separately, never with anyone else's, and we follow the temperature to the last drop.
That is how we oversee every step ourselves, from tree to bottle.

The result
An oil with a personality of its own
The result is a fresh, herbaceous extra virgin olive oil. Taste it raw: over grilled fish, a tomato salad or a slice of fresh bread with a pinch of sea salt. That is where its green, slightly bitter and peppery notes come through best.
Olive oil polyphenols contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 20 g of olive oil. Enjoy it as part of a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
